The house of Ibrahim and Ismail

Makkah rose around the Kaaba, the ancient house built by Ibrahim and Ismail. Quraysh, guardians of the sanctuary and its pilgrims, grew wealthy from the winter and summer caravans. Into the clan of Banu Hashim the story of the Message would soon enter.

The Kaaba and the Sanctuary

The Kaaba, raised by Ibrahim and Ismail, made Makkah a place of pilgrimage and a sanctuary respected across Arabia.

Quraysh and Trade

Quraysh organised the winter and summer caravans and cared for pilgrims, building the wealth and standing of Makkah.
